Thank you for your interest in the preventative prenatal training program. The course syllabus details the content of the training certification program. It is designed to be an in-depth learning experience, which requires you to explore yourself as a part of your preparation to be a birth educational counselor. Therefore, it is necessary that you feel comfortable with revealing yourself in the course of the program so that you can better relate to and understand the experiences of other women. Personal growth is a necessary part of the training.
It is also important to understand that the goal of this work is the enhancement of a woman's self-esteem and good feelings about herself as a person and a mother at this very critical period in the life cycle. This kind of work does facilitate normal birth and increases possibilities for a healthy outcome; however, this is a by-product and not the main thrust of attending to the emotional needs of mothers giving birth. The approach is therefore, a compassionate and not cause and effect or blame-inducing one. This work should enhance your ability to help women through this transition in the family and help you to support women giving birth in any way they choose.
Included in the training cost are materials other than the books, An Easier Childbirth, Making Healthy Families and Birthing Normally. Articles identified in the syllabus as well as loaning of DVD's from the DVD library are included in the training. However, postage to return and receive tapes between training modules are paid for by the student.
The cost for the entire training program is $1,295. Enrollment is limited. Enrollment in the program does not guarantee certification. Students must satisfactorily complete all assignments to receive certification. Certification in birth educational counseling and body-centered hypnosis for childbirth is dependent upon successful completion of the course work.
